Downgrade from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 is now possible. A5 based devices, which are iPhone 4S and iPad 2, should be overjoyed as well known Canadian iOS hacker has discovered a new exploit. This exploit allows A5 device owners to downgrade iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1.
iH8sn0w made his discovery public and post an update via Twitter earlier today. iH8sn0w says that this exploit will also be usable with A5X based devices, but only once Apple pushes out a new firmware version for it. The New iPad is the only A5X device available as of now.
There is no jailbreak tethered or untethered available for A5 based devices on iOS 5.1. A new jailbreak has been teased by iPhone Dev Team and Stefan Esser, but they’re far from release. Those who have mistakenly upgraded their iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1 can’t jailbreak it because none is available for it. iOS 5.0.1 is the only firmware that can be jailbroken untethered on iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Being able to downgrade iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 will prove to be very helpful for those who have mistakenly upgraded A5 devices.
Do keep in mind that saved iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs will probably be an imperative component in order to downgrade iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1. You’re set if you saved iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs when it was possible, because now it isn’t. iH8sn0w hasn’t revealed any more details regarding this exploit. iOS 5.0.1 can be jailbroken untethered on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 right now using Absinthe for both Windows and Mac. The step by step detailed tutorials are posted here.
