Given the gushing flood of smartphones that washed around us in 2011, it is somewhat refreshing to note, while toweling ourselves down, that at least one major industry player intends to shift focus from quantity to quality in 2012. This is not to say that smartphone specialist HTC produces sub-standard products away from it, but the Taiwan-based manufacturer has said it plans to craft only a select few mobile phones this year, which should allow it to concentrate exclusively on providing outstanding equipment.
“We had a fantastic year [2011], with a growth of 65% per year in the UK”, outlined HTC UK Chief Phil Robertson in Mobile Today report.
“But in Q4, we delivered a lot more products than in the past. Now we want to create more ” Hero “approach,” he said “We make great phones, but it is hard to do that when the portfolio is spread too much.”
So, with 19 different HTC phones pushed in 2011 and five alone in Q4-device maker said ” it must return to focus on creating great hardware and great customer experience.”
According to Robertson unclear, it means that HTC customers “something special” in 2012, which will be achieved by not segmenting their smartphone product line with a series of new IE. Some of HTC phones probably lost in the ether Smartphone 2011 or overshadowed by the iPhone 4S include sensation, lightning, Rezound, status and rhyme. We expect to steal scaled back to look at the HTC 2012 roadmap during next month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
